She embodies the 25,000 workers who survey the field, assess the plant and pluck the most succulent, tender leaf that bursts flavour and strength. What you taste is her obsessive quest for quality.

THE FOUNDING OF LUXMI
In 1912, when the tea industry was predominantly British, PC Chatterjee founded Luxmi Tea as an Indian movement for self reliance.
At the time, tea making was characteristically British – sola toupees, burra sahebs and sundowners. Luxmi was born out of PC Chatterjee’s quest to make Indian tea a tool in the Satyagraha movement and to break the British monopoly.

With a tract of land in Tripura to his name, he began to cultivate tea independently, without management agencies or advisors from London. Little did he know the extraordinary legacy that he would create and set into motion with Luxmi.

nurturing forests
nurturing forests
Luxmi cares about the health of its workers and its customers.
To this effect, luxmi nurtures its forests and grows tea harmoniously with nature. Many of the estates are home to dense woods, sometimes twice the area of the region growing tea.
Protecting the soil and welcoming a plethora of wildlife, these forests are an irreplaceable link in making some of the finest teas the world has ever sipped.
Adopting permaculture and organic farming has been the first step to sustainability. Estates have shunned the use of chemical additives and are switching to natural remedies. Every ounce of tea processed is subject to rigorous standard tests and is MRL verified.
Enough about us. Tell us, how
would you like your tea?
